With the scenic regional operation, the Kiel-Lubeck scenic railway opens for Train Simulator! The earliest sections of the line were opened in 1866 to connect the communities of Schleswig-Holstein with the Baltic ports, but the rails did not reach Lübeck until 1873, after the founding of the German Empire. After the complete opening, the railway was operated by several companies, mainly transporting passengers visiting the stunning places of the region. By the 1930s, the average travel time along the route was 150 minutes, and the D-Zug express reduced this time to 95 minutes. Today, regional services can cover this route in just over an hour. Unlike many popular routes throughout Germany, the Kiel-Lubeck railway is still not electrified and is mostly single-track, making it a haven for diesel operations and includes overrun tracks at various stations along the route. In Train Simulator, the 80 km Kiel-Lubeck railway will allow you to enjoy Schleswig-Holstein in its most picturesque form, riding powerful locomotives such as the DB BR 648 DMU and DB BR 218 diesel locomotive, transporting passengers through stunning views and through the heart of the wooded plains.
